15 Horror Movies You Probably Didn't Know Were Based On Books
3. I Know What You Did Last Summer
You'd think I Know What You Did Last Summer was just another horror movie trying to take advantage of the slasher craze that possessed audiences after the release of Scream. While you'd be right in that assessment, it also isn't completely true.
Loosely inspired by Lois Duncan's 1973 novel, the movie follows a group of teenagers being picked off one by one by an unknown killer. As they try to unravel the mystery as of why, they come to face the horrifying truth that a deadly sin from their collective past may be to blame.
The movie and the book couldn't be anymore different. In fact, they're almost totally dissimilar stories, with the only real connection being the main premise. While the movie is essentially just your run-of-the-mill teen slasher, the novel tells a much more grounded and character driven narrative. It's a nice little young adult horror story that history has unfairly forgotten. Do yourself a favor and give it a read.
