15 Horror Movies You Probably Didn't Know Were Based On Books

2. Ringu

The second entry on this list based off the work of Kojio Suzuki is also probably the one you'd least suspect. This is especially true once you take into account just how much there is to it.

Ringu tracks the journey of investigative journalist Nanako as she delves into the mysterious case of her niece's death. In her quest to find the truth, she instead discovers something far more sinister than she could have ever imagined.

When it comes to Ringu, it's just one piece of an incredibly large puzzle. Not only are there the novels, the last in which was released in 2013, but the original film series itself is still going with 2019's Sadako being the latest entry. Take into account three U.S. films, a South Korean film, two TV series, a crossover with Ju-On (a wonderfully ridiculous one at that), and even video games, The Ring is arguably one of the most diverse and layered franchises in the world of horror today.
