It's hard not to find an iconic image in Sylvester Stallone's classic sports drama, but the movie ends on a very definitive "hero shot" following his exhausting match against Carl Weathers' Apollo Creed. As the ringside scene is a veritable circus, Rocky calls out for Adrian, seemingly not particularly caring about the result of the match (which ends up going to Creed by way of a split decision). Adrian makes her way to the ring, and the two embrace, freezing on the indelible final image pictured above. It's perfect because, in the end, Rocky was more about the protagonist's life than his boxing career: sure, the highlight of the movie is the exhilarating battle against Creed, but professing his love for Adrian was always more important, as is made crystal clear by their embrace in the final shot. Marvelous.
