Release Date: November 27 (US), January 1 (UK) The Hype: Tom Hooper (The King's Speech, Les Miserables) directs an adaptation of David Ebershoff's award-winning novel, based on the life of Lili Elbe (Eddie Redmayne), one of the world's first gender reassignment patients. Alexandre Desplat provides the score, Hooper's regular DP Danny Cohen handles the cinematography, and the rest of the cast includes Alicia Vikander, Matthias Schoenaerts, Ben Whishaw, Amber Heard and Sebastian Koch. How Well Will It Do?: Even if the rest of the movie somehow stinks, it's almost impossible to imagine Redmayne not receiving tremendous praise for his work here, and it just might be enough to secure him his second Oscar nomination in as many years, after winning the award outright earlier this year for The Theory Of Everything. Given the proud steps forward the trans movement has made recently, the film's cultural relevance cannot be ignored, and that just might be enough to fire it to both box office success and Oscar contention.
