15 Incredibly Late Sequels That Took Decades To Arrive

10. Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull - 19 Years

The Previous Film: Indiana Jones And The Last Crusade (1989) The original Indiana Jones films are exemplar blockbusters, showing that bland heroes and mass destruction threat isn't required to make something for general audience. The Last Crusade did return to the original formula of the series (Nazi's, Christianity-based MacGuffin, non-screechy female lead), but brought enough new stuff (chief among them Sean Connery as Indy's Dad) to be a worthy cap on the trilogy. The Late Sequel: Indiana Jones And The Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull (2008) Despite the third film having the cast ride off into the sunset, the most final ending a film can deploy, Lucas and Spielberg were both keen to make another Indiana Jones. Atlantis was a popular idea for a time, but writer Lucas had his heart set on aliens. Thus we get Kingdom Of The Crystal Skull, which attempted to invoke the sci-fi B-movies of the fifties in the same way the first three threw-back to the thirties action serials. Was It Worth The Wait? Not at all. Stuffed full of terrible CGI that made the characters look plastic, Crystal Skull baulked at a full-on sci-fi tone, instead resting on constantly referencing the originals. But the biggest crime was destroying the mystique of Raiders' ending. Unforgivable.
