4. "Twelve Notes" - A Star Is Born

It's a damn shame that the brilliant Sam Elliott isn't receiving more awards love for his sublime supporting performance in A Star Is Born as rocker Jackson Maine's (Bradley Cooper) half-brother and manager Bobby, because pretty much everything that comes out of his mouth in the movie is soul-stirring gold.

Elliott's most memorable and powerful spoken moment occurs when he offers some poetic advice to Ally (Lady Gaga), telling her, "Music is essentially twelve notes between any octave - twelve notes and the octave repeats. It's the same story told over and over, forever. All any artist can offer the world is how they see those twelve notes. That's it."

Whether you take that advice literally or figuratively, it's a terrific sliver of dialogue and delivered with incredible emotional impact by an arguably never-better Elliott.
