15 Kids Movie Moments That Felt More Like Horror Films
13. The Incinerator - Toy Story 3 (2010)
Disney films have often dealt with dark themes of death and abandonment, preparing children for the dangers that they will later be faced with in life. Notable examples include the death of Bambis mother, or an almost equally heartbreaking demise of Mufasa in The Lion King. Their animation partners in crime, Pixar, continued this trend with Toy Story 3. Sure, there are plenty of laughs to be had in the film, and it ultimately ends with a heartwarming conclusion. Yet theres no denying the sheer horror of the infamous incinerator sequence. When Buzz, Woody, Jessie, and all the rest of the toys from Andy's room get lost in a junkyard and fall into a trash incinerator, they fight with every inch of their being to get out. But as the camera pulls back you see they're trapped in something far beyond their ability to escape much less comprehend. As the trash around them spirals down into the fiery hell of an incinerator, pulling the toys towards a horrifying death, they start to realise the scale of what they're up against. One by one, the toys stop struggling and decide to face death head-on. The toys are ultimately saved, but it's still a distressing sequence nonetheless.
