15 Kids Movie Moments That Felt More Like Horror Films

10. The Child Catcher - Chitty Chitty Bang Bang (1968)

The last thing you want to see in a movie as a child is a stark depiction of why everyone tells you never to approach a stranger - even if offered sweets, ice cream or (apparently) treacle tart (a niche option for the pickier child). This brings us to The Child Catcher; aka the first man ever to vilify lollipops. Before Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, no child was ever under the impression that they had to refuse sweets €“ most kids suspected that those parental warnings about accepting candy from strangers would lead to some unspeakable, unknown evil were just lies from the same brains that brought them the Tooth Fairy. But then this flamboyant hook-nosed fiend came along, and put that once entirely socially-acceptable form of bribery to bed. Another of Roald Dahl€™s creations (he adapted the script from an Ian Fleming novel), this film is single-handedly responsible for ruining the mental stability of an entire generation. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zUnhfvGdmmw
