15 Live-Action Remakes Disney Are Currently Developing

5. The Jungle Book

The Original: The Jungle Book was released back in 1967, and was the last movie to be produced by Walt Disney, who died during its production. The plot follows Mowgli, a child raised by Indian jungle wolves. His buddies, the panther Bagheera and Baloo the bear, try to convince young Mowgli to leave his jungle surroundings before the evil tiger Shere Khan arrives. The Planned Remake: Iron Man helmer Jon Favreau is directing this live-action retelling of the classic Rudyard Kipling tale. The movie was originally set for a October 9, 2015 release but has been pushed back six months and will see its release on April 15, 2016. The reason behind this rescheduling was to avoid various 2015 big hitters, although Disney need to be careful they don't get too close to Warner Bros. CGI remake version. Thatʼs right, in the space of two years we will have two live-action versions of the classic tale. The Warner Bros. version is being directed by Andy Serkis and stars Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, Benedict Cumberbatch and Naomie Harris. Serkisʼ vision of the story is expected to take a much deeper approach to the Kipling story. Regarding Disney's take, the studio and Favreau have themselves put together a stellar cast for their retelling. The cast includes Scarlett Johansson whoʼll voice Kaa, Christopher Walken to voice King Louie, Bill Murray voicing Baloo, Lupita Nyongʼo as Rakcha, Ben Kingsley as Bagheera, and Neel Sethi playing Mowgli.

Martin Scorsese fanboy; Can prove in 140-characters why Michael Bay is a hack, and I enjoy a bit of Gridiron at the weekends.
