15 Mind-Blowing Facts About Sam Raimi's Spider-Man Trilogy

13. Green Goblin's Very Different Look

If you've seen concept art for Spider-Man, you'll know that Sam Raimi and company went through a lot of different looks for the Green Goblin, which would have been even more divisive than the finished version. During the early stages of production, Studio ADI created an animatronic mask (supplemented by make-up effects) which looked like it had been torn straight from the pages of Alex Ross' Marvels. Sam Raimi can be heard in the test footage praising the design and the way the face moved, but a decision was ultimately made against using it. A definitive reason for why that is has never been made clear, but explaining why and how Norman Osborn owned a mask which could change with the facial expressions he makes may have been hard to believably portray, while this mask also didn't quite fit in with the militaristic look that they wanted to go for. Of course, it was just as ridiculous that Norman owned a mask which just so happened to perfectly match the armour created by OsCorp, so it's hard to escape the feeling they really screwed up by not utilising this design....
