8. Bruce Campbell Was Rumoured To Become Mysterio

Sam Raimi and Bruce Campbell both shot to fame thanks to their work on cult classic horror movie Evil Dead. Since then, the actor has frequently made cameo appearance in the director's body of work, and the Spider-Man trilogy was no different. In Spider-Man, Campbell play the ring announcer who gives the wrestler turned hero his name. In Spider-Man 2, he returned as an infuriating usher, and would come back one more time to play an insufferable maitre€™d in Spider-Man 3. Those were all different characters, but rumours started swirling in the months before the release of Spider-Man 3 that the plan was for Campbell to be later revealed as Mysterio, the master of illusions. Much of this rumour seemed to be made up of fan speculation as they had frequently argued that Campbell was really playing Quentin Beck and perhaps stalking Peter Parker by taking on different roles in a bid to find new ways to torment him. That's a little hard to believe and would have been hard to make believable in the context of the film, but rumours persisted that Campbell would don the fishbowl helmet for Spider-Man 4. That obviously didn't pan out, but seeing as the beloved actor would have no doubt been perfect for the role, it would have been fun to see...
