15 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Hamilton: An American Musical
13. The Orphanage
Okay, okay, we all balled our eyes out when Eliza Hamilton (Phillipa Soo) began to sing about the orphanage she set up after Alexander's death, so sorry for bringing it up again. It's one of the saddest but most beautiful parts of the entire show, letting the audience know that Eliza kept working in her husband's honour after his passing.
The orphanage Eliza set up, these days called Graham Windham, was the first private orphanage in New York City, and the song lets us know that its creation is her proudest achievement.
During the Broadway run of the show, both Miranda and Soo took time (where they somehow could find it) to perform an event to raise money for the organisation the show was honouring. After the performance, Miranda tweeted about how great a time they had, and that when they were done the kids starting singing: "Eliza, you have done enough."
Yeah, there's definitely something in your eye, isn't there?
