15 More Dumb Movies Which Are Secretly Smart

4. Team America: World Police

Shrek Forever After

Is Team America: World Police, the R-rated action comedy consisting of a cast of marionettes (plus two house cats and a baby shark) made by the two men behind South Park, funny? Not particularly. It is very much a one-joke movie and the admittedly brilliant puppet sex scene is the one bit which really produces laughs on repeat viewings.

Nonetheless, even though it's often devoid of laughs, Team America is still an engaging and easy watch. Why? Because it's got a genuinely excellent story that gloriously satirizes the War on Terror. Ultimately, Team America is similar to South Park: it's crude, it's provocative and it seems silly at first but it's actually a very on-point, thought-provoking piece of political commentary that just so happens to be delivered with the safety blanket of light-hearted comedy.

Team America isn't Matt Stone and Trey Parker's best work, but it is a testament to their enduring brand of satire.
