Escape Rooms are bloody hard. You need a lot of brains to solve them and you need more brains to actually come up with one, let alone several. Well, that's exactly what Escape Room - which tells the story of six strangers being put through a series of sophisticated and deadly escape room puzzles by a mysterious and sadistic organisation - does.

This flawed but thoroughly entertaining horror-thriller comes up with multiple escape room puzzles and all of them are bloody great, not to mention unbelievably suspenseful. The characters manage to work it all out, but it's more than likely many who saw this were watching and thinking "If I was put in one of those rooms, I'd be screwed!"

The film's 2021 sequel, although it came up with some more great escape rooms, was kind of dumb because it had some godawful plot twists in the final act. Its predecessor, on the other hand, is a cleverly constructed mystery that constantly keeps both its characters and the audience guessing. While it's no great movie, it's got more brains than most PG-13 horror films do.
