15 More Dumb Movies Which Are Secretly Smart
13. A Haunting In Venice
Agatha Christie was a genius plotter - no one else could write a murder mystery like she could. As such, the adaptations that faithfully adapt her work have already won half of the battle, because they've already got a killer plot lined up.
A Haunting in Venice is different. It's an incredibly loose adaptation of a lesser-known Christie book called Halloween Party, and aside from the presence of Hercule Poirot and the names of some of the characters, the book and its film adaptation have very little in common. This includes the ending, which deviates from the novel.
And you know what? The ending to this movie is legitimately really clever. Screenwriter Michael Green came up with an ending that woul've made Christie proud, and as a result, A Haunting in Venice is the best of the Kenneth Branagh Poirot films to date. Not amazing, but a solid murder mystery all the same.
