Who Dies?: Lou Bloom's (Jake Gyllenhaal) assistant cameraman Rick (Riz Ahmed). Method of Death: Shot (by a fleeing criminal). When the dynamic duo are filming a confrontation between the police and some armed murderers that Lou himself has organised, a car chase ensues, and of course, Lou and Rick follow with their cameras in tow. After the one surviving criminal crashes his car, Lou tells Rick to get close and film the corpse, but of course, the criminal is still alive and shoots Rick before fleeing the scene, as Lou continues to film the incident. As Rick dies, Lou tells him that he can't work with someone he can't trust, making it clear that he intentionally set up Rick to die after he tried to shake him down for more money before their stake-out began. Why It's Awesome: Because Rick's death provides a deeply disturbing look into the soul of an incredibly ambitious yet immensely sociopathic individual, willing to throw anyone under the bus to further his own goals. That he films the entire thing and then shops it to news anchor Nina (Rene Russo) for their mutual benefit is the deliciously dark icing on a very demented cake.
Stay at home dad who spends as much time teaching his kids the merits of Martin Scorsese as possible (against the missus' wishes).
