15 Most Awesome Explosions In Movie History

1. Apocalypse Now

And as wonderful as these explosions were, they're all outclassed by the mind-blowing, forest-destroying napalam sequence from Francis Ford Coppola's Apocalypse Now.

The sequence actually appears twice in the film and understandably so. We first witness the colossal explosion at the very beginning as The Doors' "The End" eerily chimes in, but the full scale of the napalm strike is visible later in the movie at the behest of Lt. Colonel Kilgore (Robert Duvall).

In addition to being an almost unimaginably huge explosion for a mere movie of all things, it gave birth to the immortal Kilgore one-liner, "I love the smell of napalm in the morning."

In an infamously insane production, the fact that Coppola was allowed to do this might be the craziest thing of all. OK, it probably isn't, but it's not far off.
