Rob Cohen's 2005 sci-fi actioner may have been both a critical and commercial dud - and rightly so, because it's terrible - but it does boast one of the most jaw-dropping feats of combustion ever committed to film.

The scene in question - like you care - sees protagonist Lt. Gannon (Josh Lucas) commandeer the prototype stealth aircraft known as EDI and fire off a massive explosive payload, decimating the goons waiting outside the hangar.

The fireball is freaking gigantic, and it's impressive how close director Rob Cohen was able to convince his stuntmen to get to the explosion (enhanced by CGI though it probably is).

It's a shame the sequence is set to some especially woeful butt rock, but that's the early 2000s for you.

Cohen may be a pretty terrible director, but his coverage here is nothing short of beautiful.
