15 Most Awesome Explosions In Movie History

10. The Long Kiss Goodnight

This Shane Black-penned cult classic doesn't get many points for serving up a beliveable effects-driven explosion, but director Renny Harlin smartly goes in the total opposite direction, by making the fireworks display as wildly over-the-top as possible.

At the end of the movie, Mitch (Samuel L. Jackson) picks up Charly (Geena Davis) and her daughter Caitlin (Yvonne Zima) in his car mere moments before villain Timothy's (Craig Bierko) bomb detonates.

The explosion decimates the Niagara Falls International Bridge, blowing a mortally wounded Timothy to hell along with his men, catapulting cars high into the air as Mitch, Charly and Caitlin just barely speed away from the inferno.

It's an intense blending of pyro both practical and digital, placing a suitably bombastic capper on a wonderfully pulpy action flick.
