15 Most Controversial Films Of The Decade (So Far)

11. Iron Man 3

What's It About? Shane Black takes over directorial duties from Jon Favreau for the third instalment of the Iron Man franchise, with Tony Stark in the midst of recovering from post traumatic stress disorder as a terrorist organisation led by the Mandarin carries out a string of attacks. The arrival of Aldrich Killian - a scientist whom Stark once knew as awkward and socially inept but has since transformed himself into the smooth-talking head of Advanced Idea Mechanics - leads Stark into the heart of a much wider criminal enterprise. Why Was It Controversial? A few unsimulated sex scenes in mainstream movies may ruffle a few prudish feathers here and there, but the wholesale altering of a key character from a comic book series canon is unforgivable in the eyes of the hardcore fans. Spoiler alert ahead (for the handful of people yet to see Iron Man 3): it was Black's treatment of Mandarin, in which he's merely a washed up actor serving as a propaganda "spokesman" for the real terrorists, which many felt was unconscionable. But not enough to stop Iron Man 3 raking in over a billion dollars at the box office...
