What's It About? Marine Vacth stars as teenager Isabelle who, after her first sexual experience while on holiday leaves her emotionally cold, decides to take up prostitution under an alias. After one of her clients dies during intercourse she decides to quit, but the police investigation into the man's death leads to her home and her secret is revealed to her shocked mother. Why Was It Controversial? Any film about a teenage girl entering into prostitution is bound to cause controversy, and while French director Francois Ozon's handling of the subject matter is rarely exploitational, his comments about the ubiquitous nature of the prostitution fantasy caused some real offence at the time of Young And Beautiful's release. Claiming he was largely taken out of context, he later joked, "I was the new Lars von Trier, I should have spoken about Nazis too. Nazis and prostitution would have been bigger."
