15 Most Controversial Films Of The Decade (So Far)

9. Noah

What's It About? The story behind Darren Aronofsky's Biblical epic should be known to most people - Noah centres around the story of the ark built by the titular character (played by Russell Crowe) in order to save the various animal species of the planet from an impending great flood. Naturally there are those who oppose Noah's plans, not least his nemesis, descendant from Cain, Tubal-cain (Ray Winstone). Why Was It Controversial? If there's one demographic of the population who have a habit of finding controversy in movies more than most then it's religious groups of various shapes and sizes. In the case of Noah the most offended groups were Muslims, and Noah was banned across the Middle East on the grounds that it contradicted the teachings of Islam. Others criticised it for its complete lack of African-American characters, failing to capture the Bible's muticultural aspect in much the same way as Hollywood's earlier Biblical epics tended to use all white actors.
