15 Most Controversial Movie Moments 2016
2. Suicide Squad Has Hardly Any Joker
Amongst the many controversies surrounding David Ayer’s long-awaited Suicide Squad, one that apparently stung fans the most was that the much-hyped new Joker played by Jared Leto barely gets any screen time at all. In fact, he only racks up around fifteen minutes worth of screen time throughout the whole movie leading film critic Peter Travers to call Leto’s role nothing more than ‘a glorified walk-on’. To be fair, as The Joker isn’t actually part of the Suicide Squad itself it makes sense he wouldn’t be the main focus, but all the Joker-heavy trailers and marketing hype suggested the Clown Prince of Crime would be in the movie for more than a measly quarter of an hour.
Leto wasn’t too pleased with The Joker’s absence either, revealing that several of his scenes were cut from the final edit. Considering all the mad lad method acting efforts he put into the role, including sending pet rats and anal beads to his co-stars, it’s not surprising he’s a bit miffed. The funniest reaction to The Joker’s lack of screen time, however, comes from an angry Redditor who announced his intention to bring legal action against Warner Brothers and DC Comic for falsely advertising and over-playing The Joker’s role in the Suicide Squad’s promotional materials. Unsurprisingly, the Redditor has yet to report back about the progress of his lawsuit.
