Considering how possessive some fans can be over their favourite movies, remaking or rebooting a classic is always risky business. So Paul Feig’s Ghostbusters reboot already had the odds stacked against it, but the announcement that the film would feature an all-female lead cast really took the biscuit. Of course, some of the movie’s detractors were merely upset with what they saw as a cynical cash grab exploiting their nostalgia but it was the views of a small but vocal minority who saw the casting choice as a feminist gimmick that resonated the loudest. Subsequently, when the first Ghostbusters reboot trailer debuted online it became the most disliked film trailer in YouTube history.

While the final product was nowhere near as good as the much-loved original Ghostbusters, the new film didn’t deserve half the hate it got. Plus, considering the remaining original cast agreed to appear in cameo roles and original director Ivan Reitman co-produced the Ghostbusters reboot, we can assume the film at least had their seal of approval.
