2. Hell Or High Water
Rotten Tomatoes Score: 98% (210 reviews)
British director David Mackenzie’s gritty, Texas-set neo-western Hell or High Water was released to a shower of critical acclaim this year and quiet rightly so. Starring Chris Pine and Ben Foster as brothers who carry out a series of robberies at the bank about to foreclose on their family ranch and Jeff Bridges and Gil Birmingham as a pair of Texas Rangers hot on their heels, it’s essentially a heist movie but also a fascinating study of the four main characters at its heart.
Already boasting a few Golden Globe nominations under its belt, with its gripping screenplay, stunning cinematography and a star turn from Jeff Bridges in his best role since True Grit, it’s rumoured Hell or High Water could earn itself a few Oscar nominations too.
