15 Most Critically Adored Films 2016 - Ranked

1. Zootopia

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 98% (240 reviews)

Some see it as a kid-friendly message about social justice, others (the tinfoil hat-wearing types) see it as a political allegory for 1980s America’s crack epidemic but whatever your interpretation of Disney’s Zootopia one thing is clear – it’s officially the most critically adored movie of 2016, at least according to Rotten Tomatoes.

Set in the titular Zootopia, a city populated by anthropomorphic animals, the film focuses on rabbit rookie police officer Judy (voiced by Ginnifer Goodwin) and con artist fox Nick (Jason Bateman) as they team up to solve a mystery surrounding the disappearance of several of Zootopia’s carnivorous inhabitants.

It raked in a huge $1.024 billion at the box office and was hailed by critics for its thought-provoking message, sense of humour and state-of-the-art animation. If current Oscar predictions come true, Zootopia could find itself in direct competition with fellow Disney titles Finding Dory and Moana for Best Animated Feature at the 2017 Academy Awards.

How would you rank the most critically acclaimed movies of 2016?
