15 Most Critically Adored Horror Movies Of 2018

1. A Quiet Place

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 95% (8.2/10)

It's been one hell of a year for horror filmmaker debuts, and though A Quiet Place was in fact John Krasinski's third film, it's his first dabbling in the genre.

Given the strength and confidence of his work here, though, you'd assume he was a passionate genre vet, because despite the film's sometimes credibility-straining premise, this is a palm-soaking, gut-wrenching 90-minute masterclass in pure suspense.

From its all-bets-are-off opening through to its forthright conclusion, A Quiet Place is mercifully streamlined and singularly committed to immersing viewers in a mostly silent movie.

Without the ability to rely on tension chords and ominous musical scores, Krasinski demonstrates his true resourcefulness as a filmmaker, getting sublime performances out of his cast (especially real-life spouse Emily Blunt).

With its near-universal acclaim and stonking box office performance, it's not remotely surprising that a sequel is on the way.
