15 Most Critically Adored Stephen King Adaptations

9. Salem's Lot (1979)

Pennywise It
CBS

Rating: Best - 83%

Between making The Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Poltergeist Tobe Hooper managed the previously unmanageable by adapting the lengthy Salem's Lot, after several big name horror film-makers had failed to turn it into a film.

Taking advantage of his fluid camerawork and commitment to atmosphere building, it's a terrifically frightening adaptation and deservedly the best TV adaptation to date.
