15 Most Disappointing Movies Of 2016

12. Assassin's Creed

X-Men Apocalypse
20th Century Fox

No video game movie released in 2016 had more pedigree behind it than Assassin's Creed, with director Justin Kurzel (Snowton, Macbeth), actor-producer Michael Fassbender and a supporting cast including Marion Cotillard, Jeremy Irons, Michael K. Williams, Brendan Gleeson and Charlotte Rampling.

The movie's key mistake is that only around 1/3 of the run-time actually takes place in the Animus, with far too much time being devoted to the present-day Abstergo nonsense, which most fans of the games agree is the worst part.

It also takes itself far too seriously, falls flat when it comes to character development, touts a rushed third act and visually incoherent, choppily edited action sequences. And it bombed at the box office, so yet another promising video game movie franchise is dead before it even really got started.
