15 Most Disturbing Horror Movies Ever

There was no way we could leave 2010’s A Serbian Film off this list, with the extremely graphic horror thriller gracing every list of disturbing, unwatchable, obscene, and all-time most shocking movies out there. It’s a well-deserved spot, too; unlike some of the films here A Serbian Film is competently shot and well-acted, rendering the horrors of what occurs onscreen more real.

The controversial flick follows a now-retired porn star who’s tempted back to one more shoot by a shady producer and… well, and his entire family end up abused and murdered, as does he, in a prolonged orgy of violence. There’s more to the mystery, but suffice to say the film features decapitation during sex, incest, molestation, murder, necrophilia, and all manner of onscreen boundary-pushing nastiness, including an infamous scene featuring a newborn—look, the film earned its place on this list.

The film’s gruesome shock horror is in aid of an allegory for the Serbian film industry’s anodyne output and its overreliance on foreign funds, but this justification didn’t stop the director from being publicly harangued over the flick’s horrific content.
