15 Most Epic Last Stands In Movie History

10. "You Better Bury Ned Right" - Unforgiven

Unforgiven Clint Eastwood

Though last stands do typically result in the hero dying a hero's death, this isn't always the case. In Clint Eastwood's unforgettable western, Bill Munny (Eastwood) learns that his pal Ned Logan (Morgan Freeman) was tortured to death by Big Whiskey's sheriff, Bill Daggett (Gene Hackman), and he ain't happy about it.

Munny returns to the town and finds Logan's corpse crudely displayed as a warning to other "assassins", before entering the saloon where Daggett and his men are holed up, preparing to kill Munny in the morning.

Munny slaughters the saloon's owner Dubois (Anthony James), and when Daggett chides him for killing an unarmed man, Munny hilarious quips, "He should've armed himself if he's gonna decorate his saloon with my friend."

Munny then bears his soul to Daggett in a tense stand-off, and when he attempts to fire the last barrel of his shotgun, it misfires. Daggett and his men then pull their weapons, but Munny is too quick, pulling a concealed pistol and wasting Daggett and his goons.

Munny then pours himself a drink before returning to a dying Daggett and finishing him off, and giving a fierce warning to the rest of the town: bury Ned properly and leave the prostitutes alone, or he'll be back.
