15. The Sicily Chase - Aquaman

There are several delightfully nutty set-pieces in Aquaman, but nothing quite matches the stylistic aplomb of the Sicily-set sequence where Black Manta (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and his goons chase down Arthur (Jason Momoa) and Mera (Amber Heard).

James Wan's thrilling direction, complete with several long shots as he fluidly transitions between parallel action, is really what makes this scene sing.

Plus, there's a part where Mera smashes a dude's helmet and he forced to shove his head down a toilet in order to survive, before she kills the remaining cronies with spikes made of red wine. Nice.

The scene culminates with Manta being taken out of action after Arthur makes his helmet backfire on itself, sidelining him until he re-emerges for the customary sequel-bait mid-credits scene.

With striking production design and visual effects, Wan was able to make the most of this superhero smackdown, which while smaller in scale than the climactic Atlantis fight is far more engaging and also literally awesome.
