12. Ivan Drago Throws In The Towel - Creed II

Creed II was a surprisingly sturdy sequel and one that took the series to unexpectedly emotional places, especially with respect to the characterisation of Ivan Drago (Dolph Lundgren) and his son Viktor (Florian Munteanu).

It's quickly established that Ivan has lived a tough life since being defeated by Rocky (Sylvester Stallone) in Rocky IV, now serving as a stern trainer to Viktor.

But during the climactic title fight between Viktor and champion Adonis Creed (Michael B. Jordan), Ivan makes the tough decision to throw in the towel to ensure his son isn't maimed or even killed by a fiercely determined Adonis.

It wonderfully echoes Rocky's failure to save Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers) in Rocky IV, proving that Ivan had the courage and compassion to do what Rocky couldn't.

In a welcome twist on the expected, Ivan's love for his son was ultimately more important than restoring his family name, and it also prompted Rocky to reconcile with his own son (Milo Ventimiglia). Terrific.
