15 Most Exciting Movies Coming In March 2020

8. Vivarium

WARNING: the trailer attached here contains major spoilers for this film.

Only the second film from director Lorcan Finnegan, Vivarium premiered at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival where it was warmly received by fans of minimalist science fiction. Set in only one location, the strength of the mystery, the speed of the reveals and the performance of the leads is key here. And Vivarium doesn't let viewers down.

"Quality family homes. Forever." the poster for Yonder reads as Jesse Eisenberg and Imogen Post's young couple follow Jonathan Aris's creepy estate agent to the perfect starter home. After being giving them a tour of the "perfect family home", the estate agent disappears and the couple realise they're stuck in the neighbourhood. Every house looks exactly the same, and they always seem to circle back around to number 9 no matter which direction they set out in.

While there is some intended boredom to the humdrum of domestic life that this film is seemingly protesting, the reveals when they come are strong enough to grab the attention of viewers while its dedication to minimalism means you'll never have all the answers. While very few definitive details are revealed by the end of the film, there are some strong hints about what is going on, and these are actually a little more disturbing than clear answers might have been.

Vivarium will be out March 27th.

After hearing that you are what you eat, Mik took a good hard look at his diet and realised he might just be a szechuan spare rib alongside prawn fried rice.
