15 Most Groundbreaking Movies Of The Decade (So Far)

13. Goodbye To Language

What's it about? Jean-Luc Godard continues his experimentations with narrative form by splitting Goodbye To Language into two stories told out of chronological order - the first, title Nature focuses on couple Josette and Gédéon with the second examining another couple Ivitch and Marcus. Narrative plays second fiddle to form, with Goodbye To Language falling closer to cinematic poetry. What makes it groundbreaking? Narrative experimentation aside (Godard's filmography is essentially a long list of movies which strive to shatter formal conventions), the real coup for Goodbye To Language is the way in which it takes 3D filmmaking - innovative filming techniques were employed, leading one critic to declare, "the vocabulary of the cinema has been enriched."
