2. Tony Stark

Despite being a second string character before earning a movie adaption, the success of the first Iron Man movie helped propel the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the heights it has attained today and the character of Tony Stark is a big reason why. Played brilliantly by Robert Downey Jr., Tony Stark is the funniest and most likable member of the Marvel Cinematic Universe, becoming arguably the most loved superhero movie character so far. In the original Iron Man, Tony Stark builds a near indestructible suit of armor to escape from a terrorist organization but his motivation for using it afterwards comes from a desire to redeem himself from a lifetime of selfish habits. Snarky, obnoxious, and irreverent, Tony Stark always has a clever comeback ready but its his serious side that pushes him over the top in terms of superhero characters and hopefully, Robert Downey Jr. will continue to play the character for the near future. Another point in his favor is that with the three Iron Man films and at least two Avengers movies in store before he's done, Tony Stark might have a legitimate claim to the highest quality filmography of any superhero except Batman.
