1. The Joker
While the number one choice on this list is painfully obvious, theres no way around the fact the The Joker is the best character from any modern superhero movie. Played by Heath Ledger in an Academy Award winning role, Nolan's take on the Joker takes on a terrifying dimension as he becomes an agent of pure chaos, striking seemingly at random in the most sensitive areas of Gotham while brilliantly avoiding capture by both Batman and the police. The writing brings out the best in Ledger's performance, giving him several iconic lines and the interrogation scene between him and Batman is one of the best scenes of any movie over the last few years. Ledger's Joker completely overshadows everything else in the movie and the scenes without him are noticeably less interesting.
