8. Wolverine

The breakout character from the first modern superhero movie, Hugh Jackman provided a compelling take on Wolverine that made him one of Hollywood's biggest stars. Wolverine's primary motivation in the X-Men movies is to find out just what happened to him early in his life as he has no memory of it. A brooding antihero, Jackman's wolverine is a man's man: tough, violent, and stubborn. Over the course of the X-Men movies, a lighter and less serious side emerges periodically but never quite comes to define him. Even though he can heal from any physical injury, Wolverine is constantly tormented by failed relationships, inner turmoil, and unrelenting angst. In the end though, the movie version of Wolverine benefits from having the best lines and story arc of any of the X-Men, and is probably the most iconic character of the X-Men films.
