15 Most Insultingly Bad Sequels To Great Movies
3. Book Of Shadows: Blair Witch 2 (2000)
After The Blair Witch Project became a surprise success in 1999, Artisan Entertainment rushed a sequel into production, ultimately hitting cinemas barely a year later.
Despite the clear commercial viability of the found footage format, Book of Shadows mostly ditches the style for a more conventionally-filmed sequel. The film was significantly re-tooled in post-production to add ill-fitting metal music (a staple of the early 2000s if there is one) and shift the tone towards a more generic slasher flick than director Joe Berlinger intended.
Basically everything that made the original so great - the style, the ambiguity, the legitimate terror of the performers - was cast aside here in pursuit of a quick buck.
The 2016 reboot-sequel Blair Witch wasn't great, but it was still leagues ahead of this cynical, franchise-derailing slop.
