12. Ginger WHAT NOW?!

Dumplin Ginger Minj
Netflix

Alongside the sublime Love, Simon, Netflix's delightful Dumplin' ranks as one of the best coming-of-age comedies of recent memory (of all time, frankly) with a touching, important tale of an outsider seeking to challenge expectations by entering a beauty pageant.

It's a gloriously camp affair thanks to the Dolly Parton soundtrack and the general culture of pageantry and Jennifer Anniston, Danielle Macdonald, Maddie Baillio and Bex Taylor-Klaus are all brilliant in it. There's also a drag sub-plot that sees Macdonald's Dumplin' turn to a local cabaret club for inspiration for the talent portion of the pageant and the audience treated to some Dolly-infused outrageousness.

But before all of that, anyone who might not be familiar with the deliciousness that is RuPaul's Drag Race might have spat out their coffee at the opening credits when one name in particular - that of Ginger Minj - appeared. The drag queen who appeared on the seventh season of Ru Paul's show plays a mentor to Dumplin' called Candee Disch and it's as lovely as it is shocking to see her outrageous stage name used in the official credits. It's still definitely a "did I REALLY just read that?!" moment, though.
