15 Most Paused Sci-Fi Movie Moments

2. Signs - Unwelcome Party Guest

Signs may not be the most critically acclaimed sci-fi horror movie, and although M. Night Shyamalan may have failed to deliver one of his signature earth-shattering twists, it was still a suspenseful and unsettling experience that has stuck with many of us for the 18 years since its release.

Detailing the story of a former priest portrayed by Mel Gibson, his brother and his two young children as they come to terms with the loss of their mother, Signs starts off with promise as we see crop circles out in the family's fields.

After a long build up, the reveal of the movie's villain is somewhat abrupt. The Hess family are called together to watch a news bulletin in which a Brazilian child's birthday party was crashed by an unwelcome visitor.

We all watched as a humanoid alien flashed across the screen in an all-too-brief glimpse of just what humanity were up against, then we rewound and paused the scene to get a better look at the alien - which, for the record, was pretty generic.
