Ero guro masterpiece from Japan, Shogun's Sadism is the unofficial sequel to Shogun's Joy Of Torture. There are two stories going on - one of a Christian girl who falls in love with a soldier in the shogunate era (when his master finds out, it is sadism all the way for the unfortunate girl), the other of a brothel towel boy who falls in love and absconds with one of the hookers, only to find himself recaptured and dealt with in a very unpleasant manner. Also known as 'Split Oxen Torturing', the perverted deeds in Shogun's Sadism are shocking and laid on thick as only Japanese cinema can do, with considerable deftness of touch. This is not a grubby or grimy exploitation pinky - it has been well thought-out, it looks good, the effects are realistic and the actors are convincing. Yes, it is a thoroughly perverted piece of film making, but it plays out like a soap opera (albeit one with gore galore) and it is surprisingly watchable despite its severe perv-mongering premise.
My first film watched was Carrie aged 2 on my dad's knee. Educated at The University of St Andrews and Trinity College Dublin. Fan of Arthouse, Exploitation, Horror, Euro Trash, Giallo, New French Extremism. Weaned at the bosom of a Russ Meyer starlet. The bleaker, artier or sleazier the better!
