Michael Chrichton's Jurassic Park was one of the biggest movies ever made when it came out in 1993. The film employed practical and digital effects that still stand up to today's standards, and the moviegoing audience absolutely loved it. The film spawned a franchise, which has raked in a ton of cash over the years.

When it was made in the early '90s, Jurassic Park cost around $63 million to make. When that's adjusted for inflation, that's a bit more than $113 million. With that kind of money, the special effects department, working under legendary SFX artist Stan Winston, the dinosaurs looked real.

The T-Rex was especially well-made, and while it looks like a digital creation, the vast majority of that beast was done practically via a gigantic puppet. The gamble worked, the dinos looked real, and director Stephen Spielberg was laughing all the way to the bank — JP made a ton of money.

Jurassic Park is the 17th movie in film history to make more than $1 billion from its theatrical run. After adjusting for inflation and taking out the costs for marketing, distribution, production, and other costs, the first Jurassic Park made an estimated profit of $837 million.
