15 Most Profitable Movies Of All Time

7. Avengers: Endgame (2019)

Marvel Studios

Avengers: Endgame was the culmination of 21 prior films that built the most financially successful film franchise in history. Comic book movies were mostly a niche offering before 2008's Iron Man managed to launch the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but if the MCU taught the world anything, it's that superhero flicks are mainstream.

The movie was a guaranteed moneymaker, and there was a lot riding on it. The first Avengers film was something of a gamble for the studio, but not Endgame. Everyone knew it would make a lot of money, though whether or not it would unseat Avatar as the highest-grossing movie ever made was up in the air.

Of course, it eventually did manage to do that, thanks to a slightly extended time in theaters. When it was all said and done, Avengers: Endgame became the highest-grossing film of all time.

Avengers: Endgame was the most expensive movie ever made, as its budget was $356 million. Adjusting that to 2020 doesn't increase the cost too much. Had it been made in 2020, it would have cost $361million. Its box office totals adjust to $2.844, billion. When all the bills were paid, and the money was finally counted, Avengers: Endgame made a profit of $900 million.
