10. Skye Slams Vishnu (Agents Of S.H.I.E.L.D.)
The Controversy: In an episode of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., Skye posits that beings perceived to be Gods by humanity could very well have been aliens. She says, "Do you think other deities are aliens too? Vishnu for sure, right?"
Some members of the Hindu community took massive offense to the implication that Vishnu's odd physical appearance made him an alien, and petitions were even assembled insisting that Marvel and/or ABC apologise for the remark.
Why It's Ridiculous: It's proof that even the most off-hand remark can rile someone up, even people as typically calm and zen as Hindus. The "scandal" made headlines for about a week and then quickly died a death, with ABC and Marvel not even acknowledging the offended parties or anything. That's one way to deal with it.
