The Controversy: Ahead of directing Guardians of the Galaxy, James Gunn was taken to task for two blog posts he wrote in February 2011, titled "The 50 Superheroes You Most Want to Have Sex With" and "The 15 Superheroes I Most Want to Have Sex With."

Gunn called Gambit a "Cajun fruit" and said of Batgirl "Being a teen mom and all, you know she's easy. Go for it" among other choice remarks deemed either homophobic or slut-shaming.

Many in the LGBT community called for Gunn to be fired from Guardians, while the U.S.' biggest LGBT advocacy group, the Human Rights Campaign, even issued a statement deriding his character.

Why It's Ridiculous: It's pretty clear to anyone with any perception of context and tone that Gunn's posts were satirical in nature, and even if one doesn't appreciate his humour, it sure as hell didn't require him being raked over the coals for something that was ultimately quite harmless.

Gunn apologised nevertheless, and the whole silly storm was quickly forgotten.
