15 Most Ridiculous Movies In Development

10. A Dog's Purpose

Rampage The Rock
Universal Pictures

Release Date: January 27, 2017

The Pitch: Based on W. Bruce Cameron's tear-jerking 2010 novel about a dog who is reincarnated through time, exploring the impact he has on the lives of his owners.

Why It's Ridiculous: It's pretty much a studio executive's logical extension of the classic dead dog weepie movie, by having the dog die a ton of times in the same movie in order to ensure you're a soggy mess when you leave the cinema.

Will It Be Any Good?: It's directed by Lasse Hallström, the filmmaker behind the devastating Hachi: A Dog's Tale, but at the same time, the material sounds incredibly sappy, and the constant dog death could quickly become numbing or feel exploitative. The trailer was a little better than expected, but it's hard to have high expectations.
