15 Most Ridiculously Absurd Casting Calls Of The 21st Century

13. Elijah Wood - Green Street (2005)

Green Street
Universal

For a while back in the early part of this Millennium, the British film industry was a little bit obsessed with football hooligans and the imaginary London underworld that Guy RItchie had invented (the reality is it's MUCH less glamorous) and they thought the best thing to do with that was to make a new Crocodile Dundee. Sort of.

For that formula, they needed a straight-laced American who could be seduced by the world of hooliganism and would come to be one of the boys himself. Naturally, they chose Elijah Wood for that role, because nobody paid any attention to the requirement for him to become a believable hooligan.

Did It Work?

Wood is actually not that bad and he sticks out far less than Charlie Hunnam's truly horrific Cockney accent (he didn't quite have the same lessons as he did for Sons Of Anarchy yet, clearly). He's completely unbelievable as a hooligan, as predicted, and the film isn't exactly a revelation, but it has its fans so you can't knock it entirely.
