15 Most Ridiculously Absurd Casting Calls Of The 21st Century
7. Seth Rogen - The Green Hornet (2011)
The decision to remake classic TV show The Green Hornet wasn't completely awful back in 2011 - there was a fanbase to cater to and the superhero bubble was alive and kicking. In other words, it was a gamble worth taking, even if some fans might have been accidentally put off by the name being so close to The Green Lantern, which was not a good parallel to make.
Unfortunately, Columbia chose to cast the least likely superhero of all time in Seth Rogen as a sort of gag based on the fact that Britt Reid relied on sidekick Kato to get him out of various scrapes. Still, casting Rogen was a step too far, since he was known for playing loveable stoner schlubs up until that point.
Did It Work?
Sure, Rogen trimmed down, but he was a million miles away from a convincing hero and the film itself was a bit of a bust. It improbably made some money, but the critics weren't exactly enthusiastic and all the goodwill for Rogen in the world couldn't hide from how badly miscast he was.
