15 Most Shocking Oscar Injustices Of All Time

14. Singin' In The Rain Isn't Nominated For Best Picture; A Boring Circus Movie Wins

If there's one thing Hollywood loves, it's a movie about Hollywood. Tinsel Town loves to show the world just how great and wonderful it is and, if it can do so via one of its own creations, all the better. If there's another thing that Hollywood loves, it's stars - stars like Gene Kelly. If there's a third Hollywood loves, it's a good, old-fashioned musical. It is somewhat bizarre, then, that Singin' In The Rain, that timeless musical about Hollywood starring Gene Kelly, wasn't nominated for the Academy Award for Best Picture. The winner that year was The Greatest Show On Earth, a decidedly mediocre film set in a circus, which is only talked about today for being the film that undeservedly won the Oscar ahead of Singin' In The Rain. Singin' In The Rain is one of the most universally-loved films of all time, but it's clear that it wasn't fully appreciated when it was released. At least not by the Academy, anyway.
